Wetland Mitigation Monitoring
Boeing Company
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. conducted a five-year monitoring
program for the wetland mitigation associated with the Boeing
Everett Expansion/Extension. The project involved collection of
data relating to function of the wetland mitigation, maintenance
of the wetland and buffer mitigation areas, and preparation of
annual reports. We assisted Boeing in complying with approved
mitigation plans for the City of Everett and Snohomish County,
providing environmental consulting regarding wetland functions,
construction and engineering of wetlands, and environmental protection.
Wetland and Wildlife Assessment
2003 Street of Dreams
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. provided the wetland delineation
for the 2003 Street of Dreams in Issaquah. The wetlands were assessed
by plant community type, hydrology, and functional value. The
wetlands were classified and wetland buffers were established
according to King County regulations. We conducted wildlife studies
in which we evaluated wildlife use, identified significant habitat
areas, and determined potential effects of the development on
species of concern. The development was designed to minimize impact
to the ecosystem by building outside of sensitive areas and sensitive
area buffers.
Community Water System
Pierce County, Department of Community & Economic Development
The community surrounding Lake Kapowsin was in need of a centralized
water system, due to high levels of arsenic in the well water.
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. assisted in the planning of a
water system to draw water from the creek-fed lake and distribute
it to the local residences. Wetland delineation and assessment
was needed to identify and minimize the impacts to the lake, and
we provided Pierce County with a wetland mitigation design and
monitoring. Mitigation for wetland and buffer impacts associated
with construction included restoration of the original soil grade
and installation of native wetland plant species.
Stream Study
Skyway Development
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. provided technical information
and classification for an unnamed tributary to Lake Washington.
A King County Level I stream study was conducted, with portions
of a Level III stream study included. The project involved a general
survey of fish habitat and utilization, wildlife habitat and utilization,
invertebrates, riparian zone vegetation and land uses, riparian
soils, channel morphology, bank stability, and adjacent wetlands.
A habitat map was prepared, which indicated habitat types, spawning
areas by species, and locations of habitat features such as large
woody debris in the stream channel or riparian zone.
Environmental Management
US Navy
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. provided environmental consulting
to the US Navy, assisting in environmental protection and environmental
safety for excavation of a contaminated site at the Everett Base.
We prepared the required plans for the excavation work, including
a Site Work Plan, Soils Management Plan, Treatment & Disposal
Plan, Health & Safety Plan, Environmental Protection Plan,
and Sampling and Analysis Plan. We performed onsite environmental
monitoring during excavation activities.
Biological Assessment
National Benevolent Association
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. prepared a Biological Assessment
to determine if the proposed project would affect endangered or
listed species. The level of use by bald eagles, marbled murrelets,
and bull trout in the project area was evaluated, as were the
potential effects on the primary food stocks, prey species, and
foraging areas for these species. Possible impacts to these species
from project construction, increased human activity, and increased
noise levels were determined, in compliance with Section 7(a)
of the Endangered Species Act.
Hydrology Study
Bristol Properties, LLC
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. conducted a two-year hydrology
study for Bristol Properties, LLC, to determine the extent of
wetlands that might affect potential development. The property
had been farmed for many years, and has historically been subject
to repeated flooding by the Green River. The presence of hydric
soil indicators did not reflect the current hydrologic conditions.
These factors made a hydrologic investigation necessary. On-site
wells were installed and monitored, and water table fluctuations
were recorded. Based on the data collected, we were able to accurately
delineate the wetland boundaries and obtain Corps of Engineers
approval for the final wetland delineation.
Wetland Assessment, Delineation,
and Mitigation, Stream and Wildlife Studies
Native American Tribes in Washington and Alaska
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. has worked with Native American
tribes on numerous occasions in association tribal housing programs
and an oil spill response facility. These projects have involved
delineation and assessment of wetlands on properties considered
for purchase or development, preparation of stream and wildlife
studies, and design of wetland mitigation when necessary. We have
provided expertise and assistance with Corps of Engineers and
NEPA permitting.
Roadside Restoration
City of Mill Creek
J. S. Jones and Associates, Inc. provided roadside restoration
for the City of Mill Creek. Native plant species were installed
to minimize erosion, prevent the spread of invasive plant species
along the road system, and provide an attractive setting. We obtained
and installed the plant materials, providing great savings to
the city, and performed traffic management during installation.
